Professor Vladimir Terzija of Newcastle University, UK, Appointed Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University

On the afternoon of December 22, Professor Vladimir Terzija of Newcastle University, UK, was appointed Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University. The appointment ceremony was held at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA). Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, Lu Chao, Deputy Director, and more than ten faculty and student representatives including Professors Dong Xinzhou and Xie Xiaorong attended the appointment ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by Sun Kai, Deputy Dean of EEA.

At the appointment ceremony, Sun Kai introduced Professor Vladimir Terzija’s academic career and his outstanding contributions in areas such as smart grids and data analytics. On behalf of EEA, Kang Chongqing extended warm congratulations to Professor Vladimir Terzija on his appointment as Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University, and expressed sincere gratitude for his long-standing close cooperation with and strong support for the Department. He noted that the Department hopes to take this appointment as an opportunity to further strengthen in-depth interaction between the two sides in scientific research, talent cultivation, and international exchange. Professor Vladimir Terzija expressed his appreciation for the long-term trust and support of EEA of Tsinghua University, and stated his willingness to jointly advance more cooperative practices in the future and contribute to the development of Tsinghua University and the Department.

During the academic lecture session, Professor Vladimir Terzija, drawing on his personal academic experience, focused on introducing the synergistic application of sensors, communication technologies, and data science in power systems. Based on practical application cases in the United Kingdom, he further presented an innovative data-driven method for enhancing the stability and control performance of power systems. The lecture was accessible yet profound, combining humanistic insight with professional expertise, and received enthusiastic responses from faculty members and students present.

Faculty members and students engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions with Professor Vladimir Terzija on frontier issues and the latest research achievements in the field of power systems, as well as on the writing and publication of high-level academic papers.

Biography of Professor Vladimir Terzija

Professor Vladimir Terzija (IEEE Fellow, Humboldt Scholar) is affiliated with Newcastle University, UK. He has extensive international experience in both academia and industry, having previously worked at the University of Manchester, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, and ABB Group, among other institutions. As an expert in the fields of smart grids and data analytics, he has long served as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, and is currently the founding Editor-in-Chief of Power Systems and Resilience, a Nature partner journal. Professor Vladimir Terzija has long supported scientific research and talent cultivation at Chinese universities, and was awarded the Chinese Government Friendship Award in 2019.
