On the afternoon of December 15, Dr. Pradeep Shenoy, Vice President of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) and from Texas Instruments (TI), USA, visited the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) and delivered an invited lecture in Lecture Hall 217 of the West Main Building. This invited lecture was co-organized by the IEEE PELS Beijing Chapter and hosted by the IEEE PELS Tsinghua University Student Branch. The lecture was chaired by Sun Kai, Deputy Dean of EEA and Chair of the IEEE PELS Beijing Chapter, with more than 30 faculty members and students from inside and outside the university in attendance.

Dr. Shenoy delivered a presentation entitled “From Grid to Gate: Evolution of Data Center Power Delivery Architectures to Meet AI Demands.” He pointed out that the conti nuous development of large AI model training is driving exponential growth in data center power density, and that traditional power delivery architectures face core challenges such as low energy efficiency, response latency, and insufficient flexibility for capacity expansion. The lecture focused on end-to-end optimization from grid access to chip-level power delivery, and elaborated on the evolution of distributed power architectures, the application of gallium nitride (GaN) power devices, and high-power-density compact design pathways. Drawing on practical cases from TI in the field of high-efficiency power modules, he shared the critical role of modular design and power supply reliability in meeting the dynamic power demands of AI computing clusters, providing feasible references for technological upgrading in the industry. After the lecture, as the Vice President of PELS responsible for conference activities, Dr. Shenoy reviewed how joining IEEE PELS had benefited his personal growth and career development, and encouraged the students present to actively participate in various academic activities of PELS.
