EEA Faculty and Students Attend UN Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development in Bangkok, Thailand
From February 24 to 27, led by faculty member Dai Jing as the team leader and Li Zeyuan as the team captain, four students from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) – Pan Xuanying, Xu Yuyan and Zhou Haohan – traveled to Bangkok, Thailand. They joined university leaders and faculty and student representatives from the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Global Competence Development Center to attend the 13th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) held at the UN Conference Centre by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). During the forum, the faculty and students participated in high-level policy dialogues, Tsinghua-hosted side events, academic achievement exhibitions, Asian youth exchanges and other activities.

High-Level Dialogue: Focusing on Synergistic Pathways for Energy Transition and Green Growth
On the afternoon of February 24, ESCAP officially launched the Energy Transition for Green Growth and Prosperity (ETGGP) initiative at the High-Level Partnership Dialogue on Energy Transition for Green Growth and Prosperity. The initiative is built around three mutually reinforcing pillars:
Conducting analytical research to strengthen the knowledge and empirical base for long-term planning across the energy, economic and industrial sectors;
Supporting regional power grid interconnection through green power corridors;
Mobilizing green finance, improving enabling conditions, building a pipeline of investable projects, and facilitating larger-scale capital flows.

High-Level Partnership Dialogue on Energy Transition for Green Growth and Prosperity
Following the launch, faculty member Dai Jing participated in the roundtable forum Connecting Energy Transition and Green Growth moderated by Ms. Yang Lin, Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCAP. In her remarks, she introduced the two-way empowerment between artificial intelligence and energy, and elaborated on the working model of their synergistic development to jointly advance the green and low-carbon transition of energy.

Academic Exhibition: EEA Cutting-Edge Achievements Showcased at the UN Conference Centre
During the forum, the Tsinghua University exhibition booth became a hub for academic exchanges. Li Zeyuan, Zhou Haohan, Xu Yuyan and Pan Xuanying delivered detailed presentations on their research respectively, including optimal design of permanent magnet motors, superhydrophobic coating research, on-line monitoring of transmission lines, and collaborative optimization of data centers and power systems. They held in-depth dialogues with experts and scholars from ASEAN countries and international organizations.

Youth Dialogue: Participating in Asian Youth Dialogue at Chulalongkorn University
On the afternoon of February 25, the student team visited Chulalongkorn University to attend the Asian Youth Dialogue Sustainable Asia-Pacific Future: Empowering Youth Innovation and Resilience. The event was co-hosted by Tsinghua University, Chulalongkorn University and the Secretariat of the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA).
On three topics – reshaping education in the era of technological change, the practical impact of university research on Asia-Pacific development, and youth shaping trusted AI governance – EEA students held in-depth exchanges with youth representatives from across the Asia-Pacific. Team captain Li Zeyuan delivered a speech on behalf of the team, sharing Tsinghua students’ thoughts and actions in practicing the concept of sustainable development in the AI era.

Tsinghua Hosted Side Event: Exploring University and Frontier Technology Empowerment for Sustainable Development
At noon on February 26, the side event Innovating Sustainability: Universities and Frontier Technologies for the SDGs was successfully held, co-hosted by Tsinghua University and the Secretariat of the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA). Guo Yong, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee, and Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, attended and addressed the event.
As a key side event of APFSD 2026, the activity attracted nearly 200 youth representatives, experts and scholars both online and offline. It featured in-depth discussions on frontier technologies empowering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making it one of the most prominent exchange events during the forum.
Dai Jing introduced China’s technical and policy system of Computility-Electricity-Carbon Coordination, and shared pathways for the synergistic development of digital and energy infrastructure in the AI era.
