On the afternoon of April 14, the appointment ceremony for Tsinghua University Distinguished Visiting Professor was held at the Lecture Hall, Room 217, Zone 3, West Main Building. Jessica Bian (Bian Jianhua), Member of the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and Former President of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES), visited Tsinghua University upon invitation. She was appointed Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University and delivered a keynote speech at the IEEE PES Day 2026 China Event.
Zhang Xiaofeng, Vice Chair of the IEEE Smart Village Committee and Chair of the IEEE Smart Village China Committee; Olayinka Omowunmi, Head of the Project Development Group of the IEEE Smart Village Committee; Zhang Jun, Professor of Wuhan University and Chair of the IEEE Wuhan Chapter; Kang Chongqing, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Tsinghua University and Chair of IEEE PES China Chapter Council (PCCC); Sun Kai, Deputy Dean of EEA; Zhong Haiwang, Tenured Associate Professor of EEA; as well as faculty and student representatives from PES student chapters of four universities in Beijing attended the event. The appointment ceremony was presided over by Sun Kai.
At the ceremony, Sun Kai introduced the academic achievements of Member Jessica Bian and her important contributions to promoting international exchanges and cooperation in the power and energy sector. Kang Chongqing presented the Distinguished Visiting Professor certificate of Tsinghua University to Member Jessica Bian, and thanked her for her long-term support and assistance to the development of EEA, Tsinghua University. He looked forward to more in-depth and comprehensive cooperation between the two sides in talent cultivation, scientific research and innovation, international academic exchanges and other fields in the future.
In her address, Member Jessica Bian stated that the title of Tsinghua University Distinguished Visiting Professor is a highly prestigious honor. She sincerely thanked Tsinghua University and EEA for their long-term support and trust. She would take this appointment as an opportunity to carry out more diversified forms of cooperation by relying on important international platforms such as IEEE, helping EEA advance toward the forefront of world-class disciplines.

About the Guest
Member Jessica Bian is an internationally renowned expert in the field of power systems. She has made outstanding contributions to power system reliability assessment, renewable energy integration policies, and smart grid standardization. She is a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering and an IEEE Fellow.
She currently serves as Chief Technology Officer of RAS Fusion, and previously worked as Director of Performance Analysis at the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). She has long been committed to the formulation of power system reliability standards, risk analysis, renewable energy integration technologies, and grid modernization strategy research. A number of energy policies and technical standards led and developed by her have exerted pioneering industrial influence.
Member Bian has received honors including the IEEE PES Wanda Reder Power Pioneer Award and the IEEE PES Technical Committee Working Group Recognition Award.
