On the morning of June 29, the appointment ceremony for Tsinghua Distinguished Visiting Professor was held at the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE), Tsinghua University. Professor Jovica Milanovic from the University of Manchester, UK, received the honorary appointment. More than 30 faculty and student representatives attended the event, including Kang Chongqing, Head of DEE; Sun Kai, Deputy Head of DEE; and Associate Professor Zhang Ning. The ceremony was presided over by Sun Kai.

At the ceremony, Sun Kai introduced Professor Jovica Milanovic’s academic resume, industry-university research cooperation experience, and remarkable achievements in power system dynamic modeling and grid stability assessment. On behalf of DEE, Kang Chongqing extended warm congratulations to Professor Milanovic on his appointment, and expressed sincere gratitude for his long-term close cooperation and strong support for the department. He hoped to take this appointment as a new starting point to deepen bilateral in-depth collaboration in joint scientific research, young talent joint training and high-level international academic exchanges, and jointly tackle core technical bottlenecks of new power systems.
Professor Milanovic delivered his gratitude for the recognition and appointment by Tsinghua University. He stated that China boasts promising prospects for the development of new power systems. In his capacity as Tsinghua Distinguished Visiting Professor, he planned to carry out continuous academic discussions and joint research with DEE faculty and students, produce high-level research outputs together, and contribute to the development of Tsinghua University and DEE.

Subsequently, Professor Milanovic delivered an invited academic lecture. Combining global power grid transformation practices, he systematically shared the latest research advances of his team, and elaborated on core challenges of new power systems, multi-dimensional grid stability evaluation frameworks, as well as coordinated decoupling technologies for transmission and distribution networks in a clear and in-depth manner. The lecture featured rigorous theories and abundant engineering cases, balancing academic depth and practical value.
After the speech opened a Q&A session, faculty and students held extensive exchanges with the professor on topics including probabilistic modeling of power system uncertainties and transmission-distribution coordination, creating a vibrant academic atmosphere.

Professor Jovica Milanovic obtained BEng and MEng from the University of Belgrade (former Yugoslavia), PhD from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and DSc from the University of Manchester, UK. He once served as Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Novi Sad and University of Belgrade in Serbia, and Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland, Australia.
His research focuses on power system modeling, operation and control. He has secured research funding totaling over 88 million GBP and published more than 650 academic papers. Professor Milanovic is Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Foreign Member of the Serbian Academy of Engineering Sciences, IEEE Fellow, IET Fellow, Chartered Engineer (CEng) of the UK, and IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer. He currently serves as Vice President of IEEE Power and Energy Society, and sits on its Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Finance Committee and Long-Range Planning Committee.
