On the morning of June 24, the 2026 IEEE PELS DAY Academic Symposium was successfully held at the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE). The event was guided by the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) China Membership Committee, hosted by the PELS Beijing Chapter, organized by the PELS Tsinghua University Student Branch, and co-organized by the PELS Beijing Jiaotong University Student Branch, PELS North China Electric Power University Student Branch, PELS North China University of Technology Student Branch, and the Tsinghua University Member Center of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.
The symposium invited three guest speakers: Professor Richard Zhang (Zhang Xiaosong), Director of the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES) at Virginia Tech; Professor Wang Laili from Xi'an Jiaotong University; and Professor Wang Yijie from Harbin Institute of Technology. Attendees included Zheng Zedong, Party Secretary of DEE; Sun Kai, Chair of the PELS China Membership Committee; and over 40 faculty members, students, and researchers from Tsinghua University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Hebei University of Technology, the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Envision Energy. The symposium was chaired by Su Bowen, Vice Chair of the IEEE PELS Tsinghua University Student Branch.

Zheng Zedong delivered the opening remarks. He noted that power electronics technology and industry had developed rapidly in recent years, serving as an indispensable key technology in renewable energy generation, new-type power systems, and transportation electrification. He highlighted that in the wave of rapid artificial intelligence development, the growing demand of computing centers for power infrastructure had created more opportunities for power electronics technology advancement. He expressed his hope that experts, faculty, and students would fully utilize PELS as a high-level exchange platform to strengthen discussions and jointly advance power electronics technology. He also thanked the volunteers of the PELS Beijing Chapter for their efforts in organizing the event.

IEEE Fellow Professor Richard Zhang from Virginia Tech first introduced the CPES research center and then delivered a keynote lecture entitled Fundamentals of Solid-State Transformer and Energy Router—Applications and Technologies . The lecture introduced the working principles of solid-state transformers and energy routers, systematically reviewed their development history and innovation journey, presented CPES's frontier research achievements in solid-state transformers, and envisioned future technological breakthroughs and application scenarios in this field.

IEEE PELS Asia-Pacific Distinguished Lecturer Professor Wang Laili from Xi'an Jiaotong University delivered an online presentation entitled Research on Packaging Failure Mechanisms and Key Characterization Parameters of Power Semiconductor Devices . The presentation introduced the packaging failure mechanisms and detection methods of power semiconductor devices from four aspects: multi-time-scale computation, interconnection aging mechanisms, insulation aging mechanisms, and integrated current detection. He shared frontier work including electro-thermal stress multi-time-scale simulation and the effects of thermal stress and insulation on device lifetime.

IEEE PELS Asia-Pacific Distinguished Lecturer Professor Wang Yijie from Harbin Institute of Technology delivered a presentation entitled Development and Challenges of Simultaneous Wireless Power and Signal Transmission Technology . The presentation introduced the main differences and application scenarios of wireless power near-field transmission, far-field transmission, and laser transmission, described various architectures of wireless transmission systems, and shared the latest research on parallel transmission, high-speed low-latency communication, and electromagnetic field energy decoupling.
