On May 18th, the Energy Internet Think Tank Research Center was established with the joint efforts of three faculties of Tsinghua University: the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Energy Internet Research Institute, and Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute. The center focuses on energy internet research and provides support to the Institute for Governance Studies of Tsinghua University, a newly established high-end national think tank. The center also aims to promote China’s solutions for building a beautiful China, achieving harmony between humanity and nature, and advancing global sustainable development.
As an important think tank in China's energy internet industry, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Energy Internet Research Institute, and Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute have conducted extensive work related to energy internet in areas such as top-tier design, policy argument, strategic research, system planning, and engineering design. Their related works include taking part in the drafting the national guideline document on energy internet titled "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of Internet Plus Smart Energy", and, acted as the sole supporting unit, assisting the National Energy Administration in selecting, promoting, and reviewing the first batch of demonstration projects (55 projects) regarding internet plus smart energy (energy internet); providing energy strategy consultancy to governments such as the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration; undertaking international energy consulting projects for organizations like the World Bank and the U.S. Energy Foundation; conducting strategic research for large energy companies such as State Grid, PetroChina, Sinopec, Sinochem Group, and China Three Gorges Corporation; and participating in the development planning and design of energy internet in key areas like Xiong'an New Area and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. With the establishment of this think tank research center, the allocation of strategic research resources within these three faculties will be further optimized, and overall planning for achievements will be strengthened. Together, they will contribute to the construction of Tsinghua University's high-end national think tank, serving the energy revolution and the development of the energy internet industry. The director of the research center is Professor Xia Qing from the Department of Electrical Engineering, and the deputy directors are Chen Qixin, Associate Professor from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Gao Feng, Vice President of the Energy Internet Research Institute, and Liu Yi, Vice President of the Sichuan Institute.
