CEIA|Digitalization Empowers the Rapid Development of Energy Enterprises — The Second Session of the CEIA Energy Digitalization Special Committee and the Energy Digitalization Sub-Forum Held in Shanghai

        To address the new opportunities and challenges brought by the development of the energy internet in achieving dual carbon goals, building a new power system, and constructing a new energy system, the "2023 China Energy Internet Conference" jointly organized by Tsinghua University, State Grid Shanghai Energy Internet Research Institute, and the China Energy Internet Industry Alliance (CEIA) was held in Shanghai on October 26, 2023. In the afternoon of the 26th, the CEIA Energy Digitalization Special Committee held its second session and the Energy Digitalization Sub-Forum under the theme of "Digitalization Empowers the Rapid Development of Energy Enterprises," with committee members and representatives attending the National Energy Internet Conference. Secretary-General of the National Energy Internet Industry and Technology Innovation Alliance, Professor Gao Wensheng from Tsinghua University, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

        In his address, Secretary-General Gao introduced the basic situation of the alliance. He mentioned that China is vigorously promoting the large-scale deployment of digital infrastructure, with green and low-carbon, energy digitalization, and energy internet being important aspects of digital information infrastructure construction. Secretary-General Gao praised the work of the Energy Digitalization Special Committee over the past year, stating that the committee has been very active and has made significant contributions to China's energy internet and energy digitalization demonstration projects. It serves as a flag bearer for the alliance, setting an example for other committees. He expressed hope that the Energy Digitalization Special Committee will achieve even greater success in 2024.


        Then, Vice Chairman of the Third Council of CEIA and Director of the Energy Digitalization Special Committee, Sun Fuyou, delivered a keynote speech. In his speech, he mentioned that with the surge of digital productivity, it has provided "new perspectives" for the construction of a new power system, brought "new models" for the high-quality development of energy enterprises, and created "new space" for the opening of industrial and global patterns. The committee is committed to making the Energy Digitalization Special Committee a non-profit, effective communication platform, encouraging everyone to participate with a relaxed and hopeful attitude. He encouraged the "absorption of universal energy with a cup of coffee" and promoted the collision of ideas and effective communication.

        In a notable highlight, the Energy Digitalization Special Committee received 52 project submissions in 2023 for the evaluation of energy digitalization demonstration projects. Following rigorous on-site inspections and reviews, ten outstanding projects were conferred with the prestigious title of CEIA Energy Digitalization Demonstration Project. The conference witnessed Secretary-General Gao Wensheng and Vice Chairman Sun Fuyou presenting plaques and certificates to the recognized institutions, symbolizing their commendable contributions to advancing energy digitalization.

        During the keynote session, Fan Jinfeng, Deputy Director of the Digitalization Department at State Grid Corporation, delivered a presentation titled "Practical Insights into the Digital Transformation of the Power Grid." Mr. Fan provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced by State Grid in expediting its digital transformation efforts and outlined the organization's overarching approach. Emphasizing the importance of foundational infrastructure elements like "computing power," "data power," and "intelligence," he detailed the implementation of ten major digital transformation projects according to the 1254 overall strategy. The initiatives aim to fortify the core infrastructure necessary for the seamless integration of digital technologies, facilitating the high-quality development of both the company and the power grid.

        Following Fan's address, representatives from institutions recognized in the 2023 CEIA Energy Digitalization Demonstration Projects shared insights into their respective initiatives.


        Zhu Yu, a Level 3 staff at the Information and Communication Company of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company Limited, presented the "Digital Transformation Demonstration Project for Power Distribution Network in State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power." He discussed the intricacies and solutions encountered during the digitization of the distribution network. Zhu highlighted the successful application of flexible development technologies to address challenges in developing a power IoT app, achieving real-time network status perception, and timely fault detection through innovative integration methods.

        Wu Hao, Head of the Experiment Department at the Testing Branch of China Southern Power Grid Energy Storage Co., offered a glimpse into the "Big Data Artificial Intelligence Analysis System for Pumped Storage Power Station Groups." His presentation showcased the application of artificial intelligence technology in addressing challenges related to the operation and maintenance of pumped storage power station groups. Mr. Wu emphasized that achieving intelligent operation and maintenance is crucial for the digital leadership of green development in the pumped storage energy sector.

        Xuan Jiaxing, Operations Director of State Grid Blockchain Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., shared insights into the "Energy Blockchain Public Service Platform—Digital Technology Leading Green and Low-Carbon Transformation." He introduced the energy blockchain public service platform constructed by State Grid Corporation, covering 27 provincial-level power companies nationwide. The platform, leveraging blockchain's features of tamper resistance, complete traceability, and public transparency, supports nationwide unified green electricity transactions. It plays a pivotal role in major national events such as the Winter Olympics, Asian Games (Asiad), and green electricity traceability. The platform serves upstream and downstream enterprises in the energy and power industry, contributing actively to achieving the green and digital transformation of the energy industry.

        Wang Xinkang, the Head of the Production Technology Department at Yunnan Power Grid Co., Ltd., took the stage to elucidate the nuances of "Digital Substation Construction and Practice at Yunnan Power Grid." His presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the company's cognitive framework, practical achievements, and future outlook in digital substation construction. Wang underscored the strategic importance of initiatives such as the establishment of a fully functional inspection center and a maintenance demonstration area. He emphasized the company's commitment to utilizing these demonstration projects as a guiding force, continually refining digital substation standards, optimizing production organization models, and expediting the development of an intelligent power grid aligned with the demands of the new energy system. This strategic approach, he asserted, is crucial for propelling the power industry towards high-quality development.

        Zeng Shunqi, a Level 6 staff at the Guangzhou Power Supply Bureau Dispatch Center, provided an in-depth presentation titled "Diversity in Action: Demonstrating Multi-User Interaction and Multi-Energy Collaboration in the Conghua Mingzhu Industrial Park." His engaging presentation shed light on the seamless integration of diverse interactions and digital technologies within comprehensive energy systems in industrial park zones. Zeng highlighted key technologies employed in running control, planning, and interactive decision support for multi-user interactions. By showcasing practical engineering applications that enhance the absorption rate of new energy and improve overall energy utilization efficiency, he emphasized the significance of tapping into the multi-energy collaborative capabilities of industrial park zones. This, he stressed, serves as a pivotal avenue for constructing a green, digitalized new power system and a new energy framework.

        Wang Jinhao, Deputy Director of the Power Science Research Institute at State Grid Shanxi Electric Power Company, shared profound insights into the "Taiyuan Smart Energy Interconnection Demonstration Project." His presentation elucidated the project's content and construction goals, with a particular focus on building a megawatt-level integrated energy system. Incorporating solar, storage, charging, cooling, and heating energy sources, the project strategically utilizes digital technologies such as 5G communication and power IoT. Wang emphasized the flexible creation of demonstration scenarios, including virtual power plants, orderly charging and discharging, comprehensive energy, and a network security target field. The ultimate goal is to develop an intelligent scientific and technological innovation platform for energy interconnection, progressively realizing its value in demonstration, scientific research, and empirical applications.

        Pan Xuewen, Assistant General Manager of State Grid Anqing Power Supply Company, took the opportunity to share profound insights into the "Anqing Hydropower Integrated Energy Services Demonstration Project." Recently honored as one of the 2023 Energy Digitalization Demonstration Projects, the initiative showcases digital applications in comprehensive energy services in the Anqing region. Pan's presentation provided an extensive analysis of the current status and development trends in energy digitalization, equipment intelligence, and the integrated application of light, storage, and charging. He delved into challenges faced in data monitoring, delayed demand response, and inaccurate predictive analysis in current energy usage. Pan underlined the pressing need for enhanced digitalization and intelligent applications in energy services as new power systems take shape, emphasizing the exploration of mutually beneficial data values to fulfill corporate missions while creating greater value for customers.

        Deputy Director of the Digitalization Department at State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company, Xiang Tianchun, shared a compelling presentation titled "Demonstrating Collaborative Optimization of Source, Network, Load, and Storage in Tianjin Binhai." He highlighted the successful application of collaborative optimization technology in the Tianjin Binhai region, showcasing the deep integration of digital and energy technologies. The presentation emphasized the region's proactive distribution network, virtual power plants, and the utilization of energy big data to achieve optimized operations in the source, network, load, and storage domains. Xiang underscored the imperative to construct a robust new power system that efficiently coordinates and interacts across all facets of source, network, load, and storage, aligning with the evolving landscape of power source structures, load characteristics, and grid forms.

        Niu Xuefeng, Chief Expert at the Chifeng New Town Thermal Power Branch of Inner Mongolia Baiyinhua Coal Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation, shared insights into the "Large-scale Air-Cooled Heating Unit Smart Operation Management System." In his presentation, Mr. Niu outlined the system's development and application in the Chifeng New Town Thermal Power Company, showcasing its advanced use of technologies such as digital modeling, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence. The system, which underwent three expansions, evolved from optimizing a single operational indicator to becoming a comprehensive, intelligent production and operation control platform. Its functionalities now include consumption differential analysis, online optimization, operational guidance, and KPI performance evaluation.

        Wei Yang, Director of the Carbon Neutrality Technology Office at the Energy Digitalization Technology Center of State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Research Institute, delivered a presentation on "Low-Carbon Evaluation and Governance Practices in the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle." Her report focused on the intelligent application and standardized practices of energy digitalization in urban pollution reduction and carbon reduction. Wei highlighted the institute's commitment to leveraging the advantages of clean energy resources in Southwestern China, the hub platform of the power grid, and the application of electricity big data. This support aims to assist government carbon management, grid-based carbon accounting, and user-based carbon measurement. The institute aims to drive the intelligent fusion of power and computation, contributing to the construction of a "green economic circle" in the Chengdu-Chongqing region.

        The event was presided over by Liu Jianming, Executive Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the CEIA Energy Digitalization Special Committee, who also delivered a comprehensive work report during the second session of the committee's second meeting.

        The event saw the participation of over 380 guests, including representatives from the National Energy Administration, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, State Grid Corporation, China Southern Power Grid, China National Energy Investment Group, China Energy Investment Corporation, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., China Electric Power Technology Market Association, and many others. The symposium facilitated in-depth discussions on active involvement in energy digitalization transformation, collaborative cooperation with power companies, and mutual exploration of future opportunities. Looking ahead, the Energy Digitalization Special Committee is committed to driving the development of the energy internet industry, fostering close collaboration with member units to collectively shape a greener, smarter, and more sustainable future.
