On January 29 2024, Tsinghua University, together with Douyin Co. Ltd, CenturyLink Group, and State Grid Taicang Power Supply Company, held a Green Data Centre Key Technology Seminar and Project Kick-off Meeting. The meeting was hosted by Guo Qinglai, project leader, professor of Tsinghua University's Department of Electrical Engineering and director of the Energy Management and Regulation Research Centre of EIRI; Chen Sheng, founder and executive chairman of CenturyLink and executive director of EIRI, delivered a speech; and the R&D team of the data centre technology centre of Douyin Co. Ltd. and the party secretary of State Grid Taicang Power Supply Company attended the meeting, including more than 50 people.
In the keynote report session, Jing Tangbo, Director of Data Centre Technology R&D of Douyin Co., Ltd, Chen Jianchang, Vice President of Marketing of State Grid Power Supply Company at Taicang, Guo Qinglai, Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University and Director of Energy Management and Regulation Research Centre of EIRI, Lin Jin, Associate Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University, Qu Lu, Assistant Researcher of Department of Electrical Engineering of Tsinghua University, and Cai Yuanji, Deputy Director of Electricity Market Institute of Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute , respectively, made wonderful reports on key technologies such as Douyin innovation practice oriented to green data centre, power market policy, energy management technology, green power-green hydrogen cogeneration technology, flexible DC technology, green power procurement and so on.
In the seminar session of the kick-off meeting, the participants, respectively from the perspective of universities, data centre users, data centre service providers, and power grid companies, fully exchanged views on the technical route, division of tasks, scheduling and synergy mechanism of the project implementation, and strived to make demonstrative and leading results in the key links, and hoped to further strengthen the cooperation in the field of green data centre, and help the development of green and low-carbon arithmetic and dual-carbon goals. They also hope to further strengthen cooperation in the field of green data centre to help the development of green and low-carbon computing power and the realisation of dual-carbon goals.
China's digital economy is in a period of rapid development, arithmetic and power are forming a new situation of mutual support and synergistic development, how to guide the green and low-carbon development of data centres and other arithmetic infrastructures is a key link in the high-quality development of China's arithmetic industry and the construction of a new type of power system. In order to focus on the key core technology, Tsinghua University will join hands with Douyin Co., Ltd. to carry out the research on "Arithmetic-Power Synergy" with CenturyLink Taicang Data Centre as the target
