On September 7, the opening ceremony of the 2024 Global Energy Transition Conference was held at Future Science City. Jointly guided by the Development Research Center of the State Council, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the China Geological Survey under the Ministry of Natural Resources, and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, the conference was hosted by the China Mining Association and co-organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, the Institute of Resources and Environmental Policy under the Development Research Center of the State Council, and the People's Government of Changping District, Beijing.
Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu, Beijing Mayor and Deputy CPC Municipal Committee Secretary Yin Yong, Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council Long Guoqiang, and Director of the China Geological Survey Li Jinfa attended and addressed the ceremony, while UN Under-Secretary-General Li Junhua delivered a video speech. The opening ceremony was presided over by Cheng Liwei, Party Secretary and President of the China Mining Association.
Attendees included Beijing Municipal Government Secretary-General Zeng Jin; District Party Secretary and Future Science City Party Working Committee Secretary Gan Jingzhong; Deputy District Party Secretary, District Chief, Deputy Party Chief of the Future Science City Party Working Committee, and Director of the Future Science City Administrative Committee Zhi Xianwei; Deputy District Party Secretary Leng Qiangtian; senior officials from relevant municipal departments; a Nobel laureate in Chemistry; and representatives from international organizations and enterprises.

The conference, themed "Transition for Development, Green Future," consisted of an opening ceremony, plenary session, nine thematic meetings, a closing session combined with the opening of Future City Energy Week, an exhibition, and a series of Future City Energy Week activities. It facilitated in-depth discussions on topics including the development of the Energy Valley, advancement of green energy sources such as wind, solar, hydrogen, and energy storage, transition in traditional energy sectors, and global energy cooperation and climate governance. The event aimed to upgrade and expand traditional productivity factors and allocation methods in the energy sector, open new fields and tracks, stimulate new momentum and advantages, and create a new landscape for green energy transition and enhanced international cooperation, thereby driving the green energy transition through new quality productive forces.

Prof. Gao Wensheng, Executive Vice President of the Institute, was invited to have an in-depth exchange with Yang Xiuling, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, and other senior leaders in the exhibition area of the conference. During the meeting, Prof. Gao Wensheng introduced in detail the innovation progress and industrialization application of the Institute and Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute in key areas such as risk assessment and monitoring of energy storage power stations, large-capacity power electronics technology, power market trading auxiliary decision-making system, green hydrogen energy industry chain, virtual power plant, and power system digital twin technology.

Meanwhile, the exhibition area presents the latest research results of the Institute of Low-Carbon Urban Energy Systems and the DC Research Center in the areas of low-carbon power system planning and carbon metering, urban low-carbon energy system planning, cloud energy storage, and “source, network, load, storage and hydrogen” solutions.
