On December 10, Professor Kang Chongqing, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Director of Tsinghua University’s Energy Internet Innovation Institute, led a delegation to the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) for academic exchanges. The Tsinghua delegation also included Professor Cheng Lin (Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Power System Operation and Control) and Dai Jing (Deputy Head of the Energy Governance Research Team at Tsinghua’s Energy Internet Innovation Institute).

Professor Ath. Zisis (NTUA Vice Rector in charge of Academic Affairs and Lifelong Learning), Professor P. Georgilakis (Vice Dean of ECE), and Ms. Antonia Lampropoulou (Head of International Relations) warmly welcomed the delegation. They respectively presented an overview of NTUA and ECE, highlighted existing institutional collaborations between NTUA and Tsinghua/other global universities, and explored potential pathways for future cooperation in joint research and talent development.

Professor Kang Chongqing delivered a keynote lecture titled "Pathways to Low-Carbon Transition in China's Power Systems". His presentation analyzed the fundamental characteristics of China's power systems, examined challenges and opportunities arising from the low-carbon transition, outlined the vast prospects of renewable energy development within China's new power systems framework, and elaborated on critical technologies, feasible pathways, and solutions for decarbonizing all segments of the power system – generation, grid infrastructure, load management, and energy storage (源网荷储).Dai Jing presented "Key Policies Enabling China's Energy Transition", detailing how the Innovation Institute functions as a technology-driven think tank to support governmental policy formulation and facilitate the clean energy transformation.

In the afternoon, the delegation from the Department of Electrical Engineering toured key laboratories at NTUA: Power & Energy Systems Laboratory, High Voltage Laboratory and Optical Communications Research Laboratory

In the future, the two sides will explore the possibility of cooperation in the fields of scientific research and joint training of talents, and strengthen international exchanges and cooperation between Tsinghua University and Greece and other countries in the EU in the field of low-carbon transformation of energy and power.
