On March 14, Professor Thomas Fröhlich, Director of the Institute of Process Measurement and Sensor Technology at Ilmenau University of Technology (TU Ilmenau) Germany, together with his wife, and Mr. Zhang Zhongren and Mr. Duan Cong, Application Department Managers of the Weighing Products Division at Sartorius AG Germany, paid a visit to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) of Tsinghua University. Professor Sun Kai, Deputy Dean of EEA, Professor Zhao Wei and Associate Professor Li Shisong from the Institute of Electrical New Technology, as well as core members of the Tabletop Power Balance Research Group of Tsinghua University, received the visiting guests.

At the symposium and exchange meeting, Sun Kai extended a warm welcome to Professor Thomas Fröhlich and the other visitors, and introduced to them the historical evolution of EEA, as well as the achievements the department has made in recent years in disciplinary development, talent cultivation, scientific research and international cooperation. Professor Thomas Fröhlich presented the research progress of TU Ilmenau and his leading team in precision weighing units, tabletop power balance and other fields, as well as the university’s cooperation with renowned international metrological research institutions and Chinese research institutes and universities. Mr. Zhang Zhongren from Sartorius AG also shared the company’s precision balance products, services and their application overview in China. Li Shisong gave a detailed account of the latest research progress of the Tsinghua University Tabletop Power Balance Project to the visiting guests.
The two parties conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on several technical issues pertaining to the construction of the tabletop power balance system, and expressed their expectations for carrying out various forms of cooperation in the future, including mutual visits and exchanges, and joint research. After the symposium and exchange meeting, the visitors toured the Power Balance Laboratory of EEA.

The Tsinghua University Tabletop Power Balance Project is committed to completing the development of a new-generation miniaturized quantum mass standard device as soon as possible, aiming to promote its extensive and efficient application in more national metrological institutions and high-level metrological laboratories.
