Overview
China Energy Internet Conference (CEIC) is a national trade event guided by the National Energy Administration and hosted by Tsinghua University and the China Energy Internet Alliance (hereinafter referred to as “the Alliance”). The conference aims to build a cross-disciplinary, cross-industry professional platform for the government, universities, and enterprises, to facilitate intelligence sharing, networking, and collaboration. It releases the latest industry and technology information to promote the healthy, orderly and rapid development of the energy internet industry, and help build the national modern energy ecosystem.
China Energy Internet Conference is an influential brand event in the energy and power industry. Every year, the conference attracts about 600 guests to the site and more than 150,000 online viewers. It also receives support from the media such as China Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Energy News, and other news outlets with thousands of news releases and reposts. The series of reports and blue books released by the conference, such as “National Energy Internet Annual Report” and “The Blue Book of Energy Internet Technology”, have received wide attention from the industry.
The conference has been held for six sessions since 2017. Over the years, the conference has adopted a hybrid mode of offline meetings and online live broadcasts, including a main forum and several sub-forums of special committees. The main forum of the conference includes the opening ceremony, keynote speeches (academician speeches), new technology and product releases, white papers and blue book releases, unveiling ceremony awards ceremony and theme reports. Currently, the conference has six sub-forums, including “Energy Internet Standardization”, “Energy Digitalization”, “Energy Internet of Things”, “Industrial Innovation and Engineering Application”, “Smart Hydrogen Energy” and “Power Carbon Neutrality”. In 2023, two additional sub-forums will be added, which are “Energy Storage Application” and “Green Transportation”.
Past Conferences at a Glance
2017 China Energy Internet Conference
On August 28, 2017, the first China Energy Internet Conference, together with the National Energy Internet General Assembly, was held at Tsinghua University.
The Alliance Charter was adopted during this first session, and the Alliance Council members were selected. It also announced the official establishment of the China Energy Internet Alliance.
The first China Energy Internet Conference played a positive role in bringing together the stakeholders from government, industry, academia, research, and application, jointly promoting the development of China’s energy internet industry and technology. It also provided a strong impetus for the launch and implementation of the first batch of energy internet demonstration projects in China and sounded the clarion call for moving projects from pilot to demonstration.
2018 China Energy Internet Conference
On November 6, 2018, the second China Energy Internet Conference was held in Beijing.
With “Promoting Demonstration, Seeking Win-Win, and Facilitating Development” as the theme, the second session encouraged discussions on research and development, demonstration project implementation, and promotion of the energy internet technology, aiming to help address the challenges encountered by energy Internet demonstration projects and provide guidance for the healthy and orderly development of the industry.
The second China Energy Internet Conference explored the key issues of sustainable development of the energy internet, created conditions for the continuous advancement of demonstration projects, and effectively promoted the healthy, orderly and vigorous development of the industry.
2019 China Energy Internet Conference
On September 20, 2019, the third China Energy Internet Conference was held in Zhuzhou, Hunan.
The third session, themed “Ubiquitous Energy, Smart Interconnection”, aimed to help boost further implementation of the energy internet concept, build a more comprehensive, inclusive, and innovative ecosystem of energy internet, create new opportunities for the industries, and play a more systematic guiding role in China’s energy transition at the theoretical and technical levels.
The third China Energy Internet Conference helped build an open and inclusive innovation ecosystem, clarified the exploratory nature of demonstration projects, and recognized the great reference value of demonstration projects for the development of the energy industry, which facilitated the further implementation of the energy Internet concept, and laid a foundation for the summary and acceptance of demonstration projects.
2020 China Energy Internet Conference
On October 15, 2020, the fourth China Energy Internet Conference was held in Chengdu, Sichuan.
The fourth session elected the Alliance Council members for the second time. With the theme of “Developing Energy Internet, Promoting Digital New Infrastructure”, the conference discussed issues related to transparent power grid, digital transformation of energy, hydrogen energy technology development, etc., aiming to promote the application of new energy internet technologies and the development of the industry.
The fourth China Energy Internet Conference provided a professional platform for academic exchange and cooperation in the energy industry, acceleration of energy internet technology, and development of talents and new standards. It was of great significance for strengthening the alliance and advancing the alliance’s work to a new level and it effectively contributed to the prosperity of China’s energy internet industry.
2021 China Energy Internet Conference
On October 13, 2021, the fifth China Energy Internet Conference was held in Zibo, Shandong.
With the theme of “Achieving Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals, Innovating Clean Energy Internet Technology”, the fifth session focused on topics such as new power system construction, and power carbon neutrality with the aim to provide guidance for a broader audience to accelerate new power system construction, promote new technologies and products application of energy internet, actively participate in the action plan of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality, and help achieve the national goals of Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality.
The fifth China Energy Internet Conference helped the stakeholders to reach a consensus on key issues such as achieving Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals and building new power systems. It clarified the direction of further endeavour and provided new perspectives, new ideas and new measures for promoting high-quality economic and social development and building a beautiful China.
2022 China Energy Internet Conference
On February 17, 2022, the sixth China Energy Internet Conference was held in Guangzhou.
Taking “Building a New Power System, Leading Sustainable Development with Zero Carbon Emission” as the theme, the sixth session aimed to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important exposition on “building a new power system around new energy” at the ninth Central Financial and Economic Work Conference, making a contribution to China’s solemn commitment to “2060 carbon peaking and carbon neutrality”, and actively facing the opportunities and challenges of energy internet under the new situation.
The sixth China Energy Internet Conference acted as a cross-disciplinary and cross-industry academic exchange platform for domestic scientific research institutes, enterprises, universities, social organizations, financial institutions, and other organizations related to the energy sector, offering strong support for high-quality development of the energy industry.
2023 China Energy Internet Conference (CEIC)
On October 26-27, 2023, the 2023 China Energy Internet Conference (the 7th China Energy Internet Conference), was held in Shanghai.
With "Addressing the Challenge of Dual Control of Carbon Emissions and Building a New Energy System" as the theme, the 7th session aimed to implement China’s solemn commitment to the world of achieving "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality by 2030 and 2060 respectively", and the important instruction of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on "accelerating the planning and construction of a new energy system". The session also sought to respond to the new opportunities and challenges in the development of the energy Internet for achieving of the goals of “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality”, constructing new power systems, and building new energy systems. The conference was held in the form of a main forum +8 sub-forums.
The 7th China Energy Internet Conference successfully created a cross-disciplinary platform for discussing and exchanging innovative resources among energy Internet-related enterprises, investment organizations, research institutions and universities. The conference also collaborated with a variety of innovative technology solution enterprises in the "green economy" ecosystem, and explored the new trend of low-carbon transformation and new forms of high-quality economic development under the goal of "carbon neutrality", in order to shape a new pattern of low-carbon development for the future energy Internet industry.
