On October 29th, the award ceremony for the 10th Innovation Cup Competition on HVDC Transmission and Power Electronics (2024) was held in Tianjin. The project Next-Generation Core Equipment for High-Resilience DC Transmission Systems: Modular Commutation Converter with High-Overload-Capacity, developed by Dr. Zhang Xueyin (Engineer, Tsinghua DC Research Center) with PhD candidates Bai Ruihang and Wang Lin from Tsinghua EE Department, won the competition's top award. Chen Mei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, and Academician Li Licheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering presented certificates and trophies to awardee representative Zhang Xueyin.

Following the award ceremony, team member Zhang Xueyin delivered a technical presentation on Next-Generation Core Equipment for High-Resilience DC Transmission Systems: Modular Commutation Converter with High-Overload-Capacity. He shared the project's key research outcomes and engaged in discussions with participating experts and scholars.

The Innovation Cup Competition for HVDC and Power Electronics, hosted by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) and organized by its HVDC and Power Electronics Technical Committee, has been held for ten consecutive editions with substantial industry influence. For the current competition, Academician Li Licheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering chaired the organizing committee, while a judging panel comprising 9-12 renowned domestic and international experts in HVDC and power electronics reviewed numerous entries, ultimately selecting two first-prize, two second prize, and two merit award winners.
