IEEE EI² 2022 Commenced with a Splendid Ceremony

Co-sponsored by the IEEE Power & Energy Association and the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering (CSEE) and co-organized by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu University of Technology, Tsinghua University, Taiyuan University of Technology, and Southwest University of Science and Technology, t the 6th IEEE Conference on Energy Internet and Energy System Integration (IEEE EI² 2022) commenced on the morning of November 12, 2022, in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The conference was conducted in a hybrid online-offline format in response to the national requirements for epidemic prevention and control, with the grand opening ceremony multi-streamed on different platforms.
During the 3-day-long conference, world-renowned experts and scholars shared their insights on cutting-edge technologies and real-world applications in the field of "energy Internet" and "energy system integration". A number of exciting activities were held at the conference, including the China key R&D program "Smart Grid Technology and Equipment" online and offline seminars, CSEE JPES Forum, and more. Through keynote speeches, academic lectures, discussions and panels, these activities presented the latest research findings on the topic of energy Internet, smart grid technology and equipment, and new power system, and poured new driving force into China's energy transformation, the implementation of the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" strategy, the research and development of key technologies in power energy technology, and the development and application of smart grid technology and equipment.

Yinbiao Shu, Chairman of the conference, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of CSEE and President of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Jessica J. Bian, Chairman of IEEE PES, Professor Qi Huang, IEEE Fellow and President of Southwest University of Science and Technology, Professor K. J. Ray Liu of the University of Maryland, President of IEEE, and Yunhui Chen, Deputy General Manager of State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company attended the opening ceremony, and delivered speeches. In their speeches, these esteemed guests stressed that this conference, as a key exchange in the global energy scene, had tremendous significance in facilitating the interconnection, openness, sharing and coordination of academic resources in related areas. They also conveyed their expectations and perspectives for the future of relevant disciplines.

Lectures Delivered at the Conference
Scholars from both China and abroad gathered together to share their profound insights
Professor Weihao Hu of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Professor Dongsheng Cai of Chengdu University of Technology moderated the lectures of the conference, where 6 top international experts in the field of power and energy, including Prof. Mohammad Shahidehpour, member of the National Academy of Engineering and IEEE Fellow, Prof. Yilu Liu, member of the National Academy of Engineering and IEEE Fellow, Prof. Yunjie Liu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of Zijinshan Laboratory for Network Communication and Security, Professor Francisco de Leon, Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery and IEEE Fellow, Professor Gang Mu, former President of Northeast Electric Power University (NEEPU), and Professor Hongbin Sun, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Taiyuan University of Technology, Head of the Energy Management and Regulation Research Center of the Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and IEEE Fellow, delivered keynote speeches on their respective topics, presented the cutting-edge researches and offered a wonderful academic banquet for the attending experts and scholars.
These outstanding lectures focused on the latest scientific research findings and academic trends, and showed the broad prospects of the application of energy Internet and energy system-related technologies.
Firstly, Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour of the Illinois Institute of Technology and IEEE Fellow delivered a lecture titled "Maintaining the Electricity Grid Resilience in Decarbonization Era”;
Then, Professor Yilu Liu of the University of Tennessee, a member of the National Academy of Engineering and IEEE Fellow delivered a lecture on "Grid Monitoring and Control". The logical rigors and detailed analyses in both lecturers’ delivery received keen attention from attendees.
Professor Francisco De Leon of New York University and IEEE Fellow delivered a lecture on “The Future of T&D Systems: The View of the EIC of TPWRD”.
Professor Yunjie Liu, Academician of the CAE and Director of the Zijinshan Laboratory for Network Communication and Security, delivered a lecture titled "Deterministic Network Promotes Enterprise Digitization of Transformation";
Professor Gang Mu, former President of Northeast Electric Power University, delivered a lecture on "Causal Science and Its Application in Power Systems".
Last but not least, Professor Hongbin Sun, IEEE Fellow, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of Taiyuan University of Technology, and Head of the Energy Management and Regulation Research Center of the Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University, delivered a lecture on "Low-carbon Smart Body Grid: Concept, Architecture and Outlook."
The opening ceremony and lectures were live-streamed online on multiple platforms and received extensive attention, attracting more than 10,000 people watching online at the same time and receiving 5,000+ likes. The conference broadened the audience's understanding of the energy Internet and energy system, and collectively built an excellent academic platform for guest lecturers and attendees to further explore and discuss the development trends of related fields.
